This big guy was out enjoying the chilly sunrise one morning back in early November. Can you believe this was shot just moments before last week’s Wednesday shot? Really the sunrise wasn’t that great, I just got lucky in seeing this heron stop for a moment to take a rest right in front of the rising sun. These guys are hanging out on the beaches of Gloucester Point and Yorktown this winter. They weren’t there last year; maybe it’s the weather that is drawing them here. They definitely aren’t hanging around during tourist season. I did see my favorite elusive heron at the public landing in town on Sunday morning; but I had a wide angle on the camera and wasn’t in the mood to go chasing him around. He caught one glimpse of me and flew off anyway. I’ll be back, though. He’s one of my unfinished projects.

I shot by the light of the full moon yesterday morning and again last night. It was brilliant out, and I discovered the prettiest public landing on the whole peninsula while out. I can’t wait to go see it during sunrise. :o) I really hope my shots came out well. I underexposed last month, so this month I bracketed up like crazy.

This is beautiful. I like the orientation you chose. It seems somewhat unexpected in portrait as opposed to landscape.

Micki! You're killing me! This is great. I'll have to disagree with you, though! No luck involved here! It's call persistence and preparation of which you have a lot of both!

Happy New Year Micki!
Love this one, it's as if it's just sitting on the setting sun, and waiting for it to set, restless.
Cheers.

I really like the tones to this and the shape of the stork (?). I think the sun was caught just right. Really focusses the eye on the sun setting. Happy New Year!

Hm, must be lonely on that pole...

I'm surprised you say it was luck. That's hard to believe because it seems so... perfect.

I think there is some mythology where the golden egg of the sun is laid each day. Beautiful.
