This big guy was out enjoying the chilly sunrise one morning back in early November. Can you believe this was shot just moments before last week’s Wednesday shot? Really the sunrise wasn’t that great, I just got lucky in seeing this heron stop for a moment to take a rest right in front of the rising sun. These guys are hanging out on the beaches of Gloucester Point and Yorktown this winter. They weren’t there last year; maybe it’s the weather that is drawing them here. They definitely aren’t hanging around during tourist season. I did see my favorite elusive heron at the public landing in town on Sunday morning; but I had a wide angle on the camera and wasn’t in the mood to go chasing him around. He caught one glimpse of me and flew off anyway. I’ll be back, though. He’s one of my unfinished projects.
I shot by the light of the full moon yesterday morning and again last night. It was brilliant out, and I discovered the prettiest public landing on the whole peninsula while out. I can’t wait to go see it during sunrise. :o) I really hope my shots came out well. I underexposed last month, so this month I bracketed up like crazy.
lovely shot....!
nice warm tones, cool composition too,you got at just the right moment...
This is beautiful. I like the orientation you chose. It seems somewhat unexpected in portrait as opposed to landscape.
Gorgeous warm tones and silhoutte. ;)
Gorgeous!!
This is where I want to be! Great photo Micki!
Perfect timing for this shot.
Sometimes, you just have to be in the right place at the right time. This is a beautiful example of that.
Beautiful pic, great work
This is beautiful, Micki. Great capture.
That's one beautiful shot. The bird seems to be taking it in as well!
This is a fabulous shot. The colors of the sunrise are so rich and warm and the silouette of the heron is wonderful.
Great capture and the sunrise is beautiful. Nice composition.
Interesting composition.
Anxious to see the moon lit shots.
astrobeck
another awesomely awesome shot/...8.25/10
Micki! You're killing me! This is great. I'll have to disagree with you, though! No luck involved here! It's call persistence and preparation of which you have a lot of both!
pretty perched upon, what appears to be, a cross. lovely, micki :o)
glad you could catch him they're such skittish creatures
A beautiful shot, Micki. So noiseless and rich in color. I agree with paul... this was not luck. Nice work.
Great shot Micki. You got your heron with a big succes.
I would like to take such a shot.
I'm jealous Micki LoL
The light can change so quickly at sunrise. This is a lovely shot.
Nicely composed with the bird almost floating on the sun.
Nice colors. Love the way the bird seems to be sitting on the sun.
Happy New Year Micki!
Love this one, it's as if it's just sitting on the setting sun, and waiting for it to set, restless.
Cheers.
I really like the tones to this and the shape of the stork (?). I think the sun was caught just right. Really focusses the eye on the sun setting. Happy New Year!
Superb ! Lovely composition, stunning colors, nice silhoutte of the bird, and breathtaking sunset. One of the best photos !
Fantastic work of art! You are really starting the new year off very well.
Very nice. Great feel to this
Perfect positioning of everything within 94 million miles : can’t ask for more than that without being geedy.
Hm, must be lonely on that pole...
I'm surprised you say it was luck. That's hard to believe because it seems so... perfect.
I think there is some mythology where the golden egg of the sun is laid each day. Beautiful.
Gee, talk about decisive moments :-)
All the time I didn't realize that you do not post process your pictures. Wow. This one is great ...as many other pictures on your site.
