Well, I almost didn’t post this shot today because my scanner did such a poor job again due to the contrast. But what the heck, today’s theme is color and this is color. I took many shots of this display, testing out different exposures, and this one and the one prior to it came out the best. On the prints, all of the details down to the center of the pinecones are there and the highlights are not this bright. I think I got this exposure right for two reasons, I metered off of the orange flowers, which probably helped keep the highlights under control, and then I filled in the shadows on the pinecones with a reflector. Light source was natural/indirect light coming from a small window on my right and from the skylight above. I used the camera’s timer so I could go back over to the display and hold the reflector in place.
We have a nor’easter blowing through right now, hope the power stays on. It’s already gone off once. We lost it on Thanksgiving Day two years ago. To all my fellow turkey-eating Americans, have a blessed Thanksgiving tomorrow. We do have much to be thankful for.
Nice composition and lighting. I like the leaves. Nick
