Mate

Not my best technically...as a matter of fact, it's filed in the "what will I do with these?" container...but, tomorrow's Friday, so I thought we'd lighten up today. Woo Hoo!

During warm weather, I do laps around the house every morning. Last fall, this praying mantis was hanging onto a bush the whole time I was out there. After the last lap, I grabbed my equipment and took a bunch of photos. I noticed after awhile that hanging next to her was her dead mate. Like most females of all species, she did what we all do so well...sucked the life out of her 'better half' and left him to hang out in the wind. On to the next one....

Now that's just not very nice. Looks like she folded him over and broke his back first too! Gosh, how mean!

Tricky shot to make, but sure is fun to look at the larger version to see more of the details - seems like the deceased has been there for a bit, being somewhat transparent looking...

LOL @ "Mate reference".
What a great photo of one of the many wonders of nature.
Did you know that the Mantis can actually capture (and kill) hummingbirds? Didn't believe it until I saw a photo of it..

You say it's "not my best technically", but I think it's really cool! Not everyday you get to see something like this...

The colors complement each other well... almost too much... It definitely took opening the larger picture to examine it well. But the subject is awesome. A fun picture, for sure.

This is the part of life I really don't get. Why does the woman have to win here? Okay I'm begining to sound like a sexist ......

Nice capture Micki.

better to die at the hands of your mate than not have had one at all, that is once you hit 90

The trouble is we let you think you're sucking the life out of us so you feel sorry for us males! Then we get what we want for about 1-2 days. You're happy cause you're thinking you are doing us a favour and we happy cause we're getting what we want. The truth of the matter is we both know nothing about each other and should just admit that.... What do you think.... You go first and admit women know nothing about men.... :)
